Experience Durham and Music Durham are seeking to appoint both a Performance Music Assistant and a Music Photographer for the 2018/19 academic year. These bursaries are aimed at students who will be studying at Durham University in the coming year, and are worth £1000 each. In an increasingly competitive graduate market, students must evidence that they have graduated with more than just a degree. These positions will provide a significant development opportunity for students wishing to gain valuable experience in a working environment. The recruitment team will be looking for a suitable student who will be dedicated to promoting music at Durham. Once appointed, students will be expected to commit 5 hours per week during each of the three terms to their duties as set out in their role descriptions. Durham Cathedral Junior Organ Scholarship

From October 2018, a Junior Organ Scholarship will be offered by the Chapter of Durham Cathedral to a current student of Durham University (Undergraduate or Postgraduate). The duties of the Junior Organ Scholar are to assist the Organist, Sub-Organist and Senior Organ Scholar in the performance of their duties. Duties are tailored by mutual agreement to meet the capacity and experience of the Junior Organ Scholar. The Junior Organ Scholar is also expected to take a part in the training of the probationer Choristers, supervise chorister theory, and to take a share of service playing. He or she may (dependent on ability) have the opportunity of taking practices with the choristers, the Lay Clerks and Choral Scholars, or the full choir; and on occasion of directing the choir in services. He or she will also be asked to play for special services in the cathedral and to undertake some administrative tasks in the running of the music; and he or she will also be expected to observe at Chorister choir practices, in the role of a second adult; and to assist and observe in the organ-loft, so as to gain experience. DFoA: Palatinate Music and Theatre Awards

On Monday 4 June, members of the Durham music and theatre community came together to celebrate a year of phenomenal music-making in the third annual Palatinate Music and Theatre Awards. The 17/18 academic year has been a particularly vibrant and eventful year for Music and Theatre, who have continued to fill various Durham venues and theatres awash with an array of eclectic, jaw-dropping performances.
