Brass Band & Reg Vardy Band – HALF PRICE TICKETS TODAY!

In eager anticipation of Durham University Brass Band and The Reg Vardy Band’s Gala Concert this Sunday, Music Durham are excited to announce half price tickets today for those who book before midnight tonight! DUBB are thrilled to be taking to the stage with a band who have been crowned the North Of England Regional Champions 35 times, and are currently ranked as the 21st best Brass Band in the world. In the second half Reg Vardy will take to the stage to play music paying homage to artists such as J.S.Bach, Gustav Mahler, Miles Davis and John Williams”. On Saturday, Reg Vardy will be giving a masterclass in the Durham University Music Department’s Concert Room from 9am to 4pm. Members of the public are welcome to come along and join in for just £10. DUBB are going to be surprised with some pieces they’ve never seen before, before joining the Reg Vardy Band on stage to finish the concert with them on Sunday night. BOOK BEFORE...

Zambia!

Dear All, THE TIME HAS COME! Applications for Durham Drama Outreach: Zambia 2016 are now OPEN. This trip is an arts outreach programme based in Livingstone and Lusaka, Zambia. A group of students travel out every summer for six weeks (exact dates TBC, however typically early August – mid-September), and conduct performing arts-based workshops with a rage of student groups. Using ALL aspects of the performing arts, these aim to foster ideas of self-confidence, self-expression and self-awareness in those we work with. In addition, our work with older groups allows an all-important theme of cultural exchange to emerge, given the huge amount we are able to learn from those we work with. Applications are now open, and we need YOU! If you are at all interested, please email the 2015 team leader, Charlotte, for more info and an application form on charlotte.thomas@durham.ac.uk. Deadline for applications is midday on WEDNESDAY 11TH NOVEMBER. I look forward very much to hearing from you! Zambia love,...

Azeem with DUOS

Five months on from Azeem Ward’s Senior Flute Recital, it is incredible how so many people are still captivated by his concerts all over the country. In May this year, whilst studying at the University of California, Azeem became an internet sensation through his recital’s Facebook event, attracting over 50, 000 people to watch the live stream. Having such a well-known and admired flautist performing in Durham’s contemporary music concert (featuring mainly 20th century but also some 21st century compositions) was an amazing way to promote and share new music to audiences who otherwise might have been oblivious to...
