Durham University Choral Society are looking for a new accompanist for the 2019/20 academic year!

The role is an incredibly exciting opportunity for aspiring accompanists looking to work with a large choir who perform large scale repertoire. The role also gives the opportunity to work with our director and Master of the Choristers at Durham Cathedral, Daniel Cook, and benefit from his musical expertise and experience. This is a particularly unique opportunity as we are one of the only groups in Music Durham with a professional director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Accompanying all of our rehearsals (Monday evenings in term time from 7:30-9:30pm). Good sight reading is extremely important since our repertoire is broad each term and the accompanist plays an essential role in the smooth running of rehearsals.
  • Taking occasional rehearsals in the event of our director being absent.

The accompanist must be committed to attending all rehearsals throughout the year.

How to apply:

The audition process will involve an extract of sight reading, coming in to take part in a rehearsal and an interview to assess previous experience and what could be brought to the role by the candidate. This process will be completed after exams for the role beginning next academic year. We are really excited to be opening this role out to the wider university and hope that you will apply!
