Applications are now open for DUOS’ two leader positions for the 2019/20 year – one for the Symphony Orchestra and one for the Chamber Orchestra.
Our leaders work with the conductors to manage rehearsals and desking, coordinate the string section with bowings and sectionals throughout the year, and sit on the audition panel during freshers’ week. The leaders act as the main link between the orchestra and the conductor, and are seen as role models within the society.
How to apply
To apply, you must be a violinist who will be an undergraduate or postgraduate student at Durham University during the academic year 2019/20. It is preferable to have been a previous member of DUOS, but this is not necessary.
Auditions for both leader positions will take place on Sunday 23rd June. The audition will involve sight reading provided on the day, a short solo piece chosen by the applicant (without accompaniment and we will stop you after about 5 minutes), and a general interview. Applicants will also be required to lead and rehearse a string quartet (the quartet will be provided, and music will be released a week prior to the audition). Experience of leading is not necessary.
To apply to be one of our leaders, please email [email protected] with your name, year, and mobile number by Monday 10th June. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us using the email address provided above.
