Durham University Palatinate Orchestra is currently looking to recruit two conductors to lead the Chamber and Symphony Orchestras in the 2019/20 Academic Year!

About Us

DUPO prides itself on balancing high quality music making with a vibrant social atmosphere. Both orchestras perform several times each year in some of Durham’s most exciting concert venues, including Durham Cathedral, Castle Great Hall, and the Gala Theatre.

The Symphony Orchestra consists of about 90 performers, and the Chamber Orchestra about 35 performers, with both groups playing exciting and ambitious repertoire. Recent performances include Brahms’ 2nd Symphony, Hindemith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis, Vaughan Williams’ 5th Symphony and Manual de Falla’s Three Cornered Hat Suite.

The orchestras perform throughout the year, including a number of collaborations; we regularly perform concertos and accompany Durham University Choral Society. DUPO prioritises engagement with the community and youth outreach; the society performs to Durham school children in their annual Schools Concert in Michaelmas term, and are performing alongside student from St Margaret’s Primary School in this year’s summer concert. DUPO also goes on tour at the end of the academic year – this year we will be travelling to the beautiful city of Lyon!
