Tuesday evening, Music Department Concert Room
Durham University Brass Band is a vibrant and friendly ensemble, determined to show that brass bands are still relevant within a modern university community. The band is non-auditioning and committed to welcoming players of all abilities whilst also putting on a fantastic show.
dubb are committed to honouring the legacy of brass bands in the United Kingdom and remembering the importance of the mining industry which led to the establishment of so many of these groups. Due to this, we feel special ties with Durham Cathedral, an incredible space in the heart of an area whose history and culture owes so much to, and continues to be influenced by, the mining industry.
The band competes at the annual UniBrass Championships and have picked up a host of prizes in recent years. Highlights include ‘Best Student Composition’, Champions of the UniBrass Shield 2017, and most recently ‘Best Percussion Section’, ‘Best Student Conductor’, ‘Most Entertaining’ and Champions of the UniBrass Trophy 2021. Whilst the band are very proud of their competition achievements, it is their concerts and local community events that they most enjoy, particularly working with Championship and Military bands, marching for Remembrance Sunday, and being part of the Music Durham concert in Durham Cathedral. We also collaborate with other university brass bands in the annual TriUni concert and social.
