Durham University Chamber Choir are now accepting applications to conduct the society in the 2019-20 academic year.

The choir consists of 24 of Durham’s finest choral singers and is auditioned annually. Reputed for its high standards of singing and musicianship, the choir performs regularly throughout the year in venues such as the Cathedral Chapter House, St Godric’s Church and Durham Castle. All applicants must be students at Durham University (undergraduate or postgraduate) and resident in Durham during term time for the next academic year. No formal conudcting experience is required.

Amongst other things, conductors are responsible for planning and taking all weekly rehearsals, choosing the concert repertoire, and selecting the society’s members alongside the manager and assistant manager through annual auditions. They are also expected to go on the society’s annual tour at the end of the year; previous destinations have included Budapest and Lisbon.

This is an exciting opportunity to conduct one of the University’s finest choirs. Throughout the year, the choir undertake a number of varied projects both within the university and the wider community.
