We invite 4 singers (SATB) to apply to sing as part of the Messiah project with the Orchestra of the Age Enlightenment in January. This is part of the Durham Vocal Festival.
The key dates are:
Sunday 27th January: pm rehearsal with small chamber ensemble from the OAE
Monday 28th January: am rehearsal and 2 x 1 hour sharing sessions at Belmont School in Durham (outside times 9.30-2.30)
Tuesday 29th January: 9.30-12.30 at Wyvern Academy in Darlington for two further shows (we could provide transport to Darlington for students if needed)
The project involves two secondary school groups who will be creating an instrumental response to the Hallelujah chorus, primary and secondary pupils who will be singing an arranged/shortened version of the Hallelujah chorus (which will be transposed down a 3rd for pupils) as a well as a new song commissioned for the project by James Redwood. Alongside this work we would like to showcase extracts of the Messiah, both from a vocal and an instrumental point of view, certainly including some of The Trumpet Shall Sound.
This is a really exciting opportunity for 4 Durham students, and something that would qualify for lecture concessions – so even if you have academic commitments during these times but would like to be involved, please get in touch.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please send an email to [email protected]
