Thanks to the collegiate system Durham University is fortunate enough to have a large number of chapel choirs, and therefore fosters a very high standard of choral music. Eight out of the seventeen colleges in Durham have their own chapel choir, catering for all abilities and time commitments, from small auditioned ensembles to larger open choirs.
It does not matter which college you are from, the choirs are made up of students from across the university, and you can join as many as you would like to – providing their timetables do not clash! Joining a chapel choir while studying at Durham affords you several exciting opportunities: from singing in Durham Cathedral to other places of worship within and outside of the UK; singing on short tours during term time or longer ones during the holidays; learning unusual repertoire; or participating in CD recordings.
