Durham University Classical Ensemble (DUCE) is the University’s newest orchestra, having been founded in 2015. DUCE concentrates exclusively on performing the Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic repertoires. Being one of the smallest ensembles, we pride ourself with our friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Despite coming from a shorter time period than that of Durham’s other orchestras, DUCE’s repertoire is exciting, ambitious and varied. Our most recent concerts have included works such as; Beethoven’s 3rd and 9th Symphony, Weber Clarinet Concerto no. 1, and Haydn’s Symphony no. 35, to name just a few. The ensemble features regular soloists through concerto auditions which are held annually in December.
