Durham University Classical Ensemble is the university’s newest orchestra, having been founded in 2015. DUCE concentrates exclusively on performing the Baroque, Classical, and early Romantic repertoires. The society is very friendly and welcoming, and goes on tour in third term, most recently to Belgium and Barcelona.
Despite coming from a shorter time period than that of Durham’s other orchestras, DUCE’s repertoire is exciting and varied. Most recent concerts have included Mendelssohn’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, Purcell’s ‘Fairy Queen’, and Telemann’s ‘Flute Suite in A minor’. The ensemble also enjoy featuring a soloist (or multiple soloists!) in their concerts and regularly audition for concertos.
