Durham Festival of the Arts – Applications Open!

Music Durham and Durham Student Theatre are delighted to announce that applications are open to be part of the Executive Committee for Durham Festival of the Arts 2018 (DFoA).

DFoA is a celebration music and theatre at Durham University and brings the two respective societies closer together through joint events, socials and workshops. This year the festival will run from 1 June until 22 June.

 

DEADLINE: Monday 20 November 12PM MIDDAY

We are looking for individuals to fill the following roles:
  • Marketing Officer
  • Communications Officer
  • Music Masterclasses Co-ordinator
  • Theatre Workshop Co-ordinator
  • Events Co-ordinator
  • Black Box Co-ordinator

Marketing Officer

The Marketing Officer will be responsible for designing and creating all publicity for DFoA, including poster banners and publicity images. Along with the Communications Officer, you will get the opportunity to work with and receive training from Durham University’s Marketing and Communications Team. Experience with Photoshop and Indesign is preferred but not essential.

Communications Officer 

The Communications Officer will be responsible for disseminating all publicity across Durham and the local area. This involves heading the social media strategy, contacting local press, organising a maildrop and other advertising avenues. Along with the Marketing Officer, you will get the opportunity to work with and receive training from Durham University’s Marketing and Communications Team.

Music Masterclasses Co-ordinator

The successful candidate for this role will organise a number of masterclasses throughout the festival period. They will be responsible for liaising with professionals, booking venues and formalising arrangements for each masterclass. They will work closely with the treasurer and marketing officer to budget for and publicise each event. Candidates should have ideas about what masterclasses to run (covering a number of styles and skills) that will appeal to performers, observers, and community members.

Theatre Workshops Co-ordinator

The successful candidate for this role will organise a number of workshops throughout the festival period. They will be responsible for liaising with professionals, booking venues and formalising arrangements for each workshop. They will work closely with the treasurer and marketing officer to budget for and publicise each event. Candidates should have ideas about what workshops to run (covering a number of styles and skills) that will appeal to performers, observers, and community members.

Events Co-ordinator

The Events Co-ordinator will be responsible for organising the DFoA Launch Party. They will also assistant in co-ordinating Arts on the Green. They will take a key role in organising this year’s Palatine Awards alongside the music and theatre sabbatical officers. They are encouraged to think creatively about ways of celebrating the festival and creating events which encourage involvement.

Black Box Co-ordinator

The Black Box Co-ordinator will be responsible for sourcing and liaising with the Black Box venue for this year, as well as hiring relevant technical equipment and recruiting technicians for assistance. Although knowledge of technical theatre is not essential, it is advised. The Black Box Co-ordinator will be responsible for programming the DFoA’s Black Box schedule.
