Exciting things are afoot…we are in the process of finally establishing the Durham Composers’ Guild, a collaboration between Music Durham and members of the music department!

The society will present regular masterclasses, workshops, and concerts with a range of internal contributors as well as specially invited guests.

The first events are this coming Monday (1st February); these will include an open meeting at from 11.00-12.00 to discuss the plans for the society, and a workshop-recital from invited guest Jack Adler Mckean, from 13.00-14.00. This Composers’ Guild will be a fantastic opportunity for those of you that are (or think you might be) interested in composition and contemporary music – if you are, I strongly urge you come along to either, or both events!

Monday 1st February 11.00 – 12.00 (Concert Room, Music School): General Meeting. You will hear from those of us that have worked on the planning stages of the society and will have a chance to let us know if you want to get involved yourselves, on any level you wish.
Monday 1st February 13.00 – 14.00 (Concert Room, Music School): Workshop Recital from Jack Adler-Mckean. Jack, an absolutely outstanding performer visiting us from Germany, will be presenting the recently developed microtonal tuba and playing a couple of pieces especially written for the instrument. This is not to be missed!
