Postponed: Masterclass with Mark Armstrong
17/06/2020 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we have taken the decision with a heavy heart that all our remaining concerts are cancelled or postponed.
This is a very difficult time for everyone, and we’d like to thank you all for your support as we work through this together. We hope that you, your families, and loved ones keep safe and well.
We are delighted to have Mark Armstrong join us for this workshop which is FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Mark will be workshopping repertoire that the band is focusing on for its upcoming EP recording.
Mark is the Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Professor at the Royal College of Music. He is an Oxford Alumnus, having read Music at Jesus College (1994-1997) before continuing his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Mark has had a wide-ranging career as a jazz, commercial and classical trumpeter ranging from appearances with the Ulster Orchestra and London Sinfonietta to playing in West End shows as well as his main focus as a jazz soloist.
As a member of the Ronnie Scotts Jazz Orchestra he performs regularly at the club and has had a continuing collaboration with UK drummer Clark Tracey, first appearing in Clark’s quintet and then in a variety of other projects with Clark and his father Stan (often described as the “Godfather of British Jazz”) which culminated in playing on Stan’s final Album The Flying Pig in 2013. As Artistic Director of NYJO he directs the orchestra in its busy performance schedule and oversees its educational activities in London and around the country. His role at the RCM includes delivering academic and practical lectures and one-to-one teaching on jazz as part of the degree programme.
Performing at Ronnie Scotts regularly and an experienced educator, Mark is guaranteed to bring valuable information to those new or accomplished in jazz! We hope to see you there on Wednesday 17th June!
