DUOS – Orchestral Society Auditions
- This event has passed.
7 October 2015 9:00 am - 11 October 2015 10:00 pm
What should you expect from your audition? You should prepare a short unaccompanied piece, lasting no longer than five minutes, for your audition. You will also be given a brief extract of sight-reading shortly before the audition. Finally, there will be a very relaxed chat with the panel so we can find out a bit more about you.
What standard do I need to be? You do not need to have taken any music exams to audition and we actively encourage anyone who is interested to audition. You also do not need to have any experience of playing in an orchestra or ensemble, although this helps. As an indication, most of our players are Grade 8 standard and above.
What if I play more than one instrument? If you play more than one different instrument (e.g. viola and trumpet), you can audition on each and your applications will be treated individually. If you play an auxiliary instrument (e.g. flute and piccolo) you should bring your auxiliary instrument with you to your audition. You do not need to prepare a piece on your auxiliary instrument, although you may be given some brief sight-reading. Your performance on your auxiliary instrument will not hinder your chances of success on your principal instrument, however it may aid your application.
MOST IMPORTANTLY! Come and see us at the Experience Durham Fair on the Tuesday or Wednesday of Freshers’ Week! This is the only way of signing up for an audition.
Auditions are from Wednesday 7th – Sunday 11th October and you must sign up at the Experience Durham fair for an audition slot!
