- This event has passed.
18 June 2016 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Durham University Orchestral Society have now opened applications for next year’s Leaders and Concerti. Auditions will be held on Saturday 18th June. Please note that the deadline for applications is on Friday 10th June at 6pm. Any Durham non-finalist may audition.
We will accept two leaders for the next academic year: one for the Symphony Orchestra and one for the Chamber Orchestra. The audition will consist of:
- Sight reading, with 10 minutes preparation time.
- Solo piece, of the applicant’s choice. This may be accompanied or unaccompanied and must be between 5 and 10 minutes in length.
- String quartet. The applicants will have 10 minutes with a string quartet (provided) to prepare and perform an extract from a set piece. The set piece will be released one week before the day of the audition, but there must be no prior rehearsals with members of the quartet. Both the preparation and performance of the quartet will be in front of the panel.
- Short general interview with the panel.
To apply for Leader, please contact email@example.com with your name, college, year, course, telephone number and your chosen solo piece.
Concerto We will accept up to four concerti next year to play with the Symphony or Chamber orchestra. The audition panel will consist of myself and next year’s conductors. You should prepare outer movement of your chosen concerto for the audition. This must be accompanied by piano, even in the case of piano concerti, and an accompanist will not be provided. Solo orchestral pieces are also acceptable. In this case you should prepare an extract that is similar in length and difficulty to an outer movement of a concerto. There will be a short general interview after the audition.
To apply for Concerto, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, college, year, course, telephone number and your chosen concerto.
