DUPO Summer Concert
16/06/2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree – £10
Durham University Palatinate Orchestra are pleased to present a Summer Concert, featuring both the Symphony and Chamber Orchestras in their final concert of the academic year!
**Please note the change of venue to Durham Johnston School for this concert.**
This year we have had the pleasure of being involved in an exciting project with St Margaret’s Primary School, with PhD student, composer, and DUPO member Rob King working with pupils to compose their own pieces of music based on artwork. In our summer concert, the Symphony Orchestra will play these compositions alongside members of St Margaret’s orchestra. The culmination of many months’ hard work, the end result will be a fantastic performance of Mussorgsky’s powerful and well-known Pictures at an Exhibition (orchestrated by Ravel), with new music written by pupils of St Margaret’s Primary School interspersed throughout in place of the “promenades”.
Joined by soloist Hannah Ambrose, the Chamber Orchestra will perform Reinhold Glière’s Concerto for Coloratura Soprano, followed by the 1919 suite of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, for an exciting and energetic second half.
There will be a short interval at which refreshments will be served. Please note that no unauthorised photography is allowed at this event.
