KLANG 2: Trio Atem
- This event has passed.
7 December 2017 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Trio Atem (Manchester) presents three new pieces commissioned as part of their tenth birthday celebrations. Join them as they navigate bewildering labyrinths, assume extrovert vocal characters, and interpret textual stimuli in a performance that explores the intriguing sonic potential of the unusual flute-voice-cello combination.
Nina Whiteman House of Mazes (2017)
Pia Palme HER VERY NOISE, HER GUISE (2017)
Gavin Osborn as curve beyond points to see (2017)
Gavin Osborn | flutes
Nina Whiteman | mezzo soprano
Alice Purton | cello
Since forming in 2007 for a performance of Helmut Lachenmann’s temmA, Trio Atem has commissioned and premiered over 50 new compositions. Performance engagements include Kings Place, York Late Music, the BBS Philharmonic’s Ink Still Wet series, New Music North West, and university concert series across the UK. The ensemble has been in residence at Novars electroacoustic studieos (The University of Manchester), and given workshops for the younger generation of composers in a host of educational settings. Trio Atem has recorded on the another timbre label, and received funding for commissioning activities from the PRS for Music Foundation, RVW Trust, and Arts Council England.
Trio Atem is grateful to the Arts Council for funding their tenth birthday tour and commissions.
KLANG is Durham University’s concert series for new and experimental art music. All concerts in KLANG are free of charge, though donations are welcome. No advance tickets required.
