Lux Aeterna: Music of Remembrance, Commemorating the Centenary of the Battle of the Somme.
Conducted by Thomas Brooke, Durham University Chamber Choir will be singing a mixture of European music, tied in witch the theme of remembrance. The main feature of the evening will be a performance of Maurice Durufle’s Requiem, which was commissioned during World War II and which will make use of the wonderful Durham Cathedral organ.
The concert will also feature music by Bairstow, Lobo and Gesualdo, as well as a performance of Finzi’s famed Lo, the Full, Final Sacrifice.
The evening will feature the premiere of a piece by North East based composer, Daniel Purtell, which is based the poem, ‘Rain’, by the war poet, Edward Thomas.
