Ranjani Ramachandran is one of the leading vocalists amongst classical singers of khyal, the most commonly performed vocal genre of Hindustani art music in North India. Having studied with eminent artists including Ulhas Kashalkar, Veena Sahasrabuddhe, Kashinath Bodas and Girija Devi, she has performed across India and abroad, and has been awarded a number of distinguished prizes.
Ranjani Ramachandran is faculty member of the Department of Hindustani Classical Music at Visva-Bharati Unversity, Santiniketan in West Bengal. She is the recipient of a Charles Wallace Trust scholarship, supporting her visit to Durham in February 2016, to carry out postdoctoral research on “Advanced techniques of analysis in khyal performance”. This Musicon concert forms part of her residency in Durham.
