UK’s monthly magazine The Strad describes Philip Higham as ‘possessing that rare combination of refined technique with subtle and expressive musicianship – all the qualities of a world-class artist’, whilst the Gramophone praises his ‘expansive but tender playing’. It is these qualities that distinguish him as one of the most prominent young cellists from this country.
Philip Higham has appeared as soloist with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra at Bridgewater Hall, the Royal Northern Sinfonia, and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Together with pianist Alasdair Beatson he presents a kaleidoscopic Musicon programme combining exciting repertoire from both the 19th and 20th century, including a world première performance of a newly commissioned work by John Casken.
