Orchestra North East
6 October 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
Butterworth Rhapsody: A Shropshire Lad
Richard Straus Four Last Songs
Brahms Symphony No. 2
Orchestra North East are very pleased to welcome Sarah Fox, one of the leading English sopranos of her generation as a soloist, to perform the Four Last Songs of Richard Strauss. The Cathedral will be a perfect venue for such a powerful work, as it will for Butterworth’s Rhapsody: A Shropshire Lad, which opens the concert. At a time when many will be contemplating the anniversary of the end of the Great War in 1918, Butterworth’s music has a particular poignancy. Brahms’ beautiful Second Symphony completes the programme.
The concert will be conducted by Aidan Oliver, who is making a welcome return to us and who will no doubt have had a busy summer as the newly appointed Director of the Edinburgh Festival Chorus.
Tickets will be available from mid-August from the Gala Box Office 03000 266600 or www.galadurham.co.uk or via the Orchestra’s website www.orchestranortheast.org.uk
Tickets: Adult £16, Concession £14, Student £8, Accompanied 16s and under £1.
