Orchestra North East Spring Concert
- This event has passed.
22 April 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join Orchestra North East for their Spring Concert, presenting an afternoon of significant first occasions for the Orchestra, both of repertoire and guests.
Emilie Mayer: Faust Overture, Opus 46
Sergei Rachmaninov: Variations on a Theme of Paganini
Antonin Dvorak: Symphony No. 6
In over thirty concert seasons, the Orchestra has never before presented this music. Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini needs little introduction, but the performance of a dramatic Faust Overture by the German composer Emilie Mayer may be the first in the UK. Dvorak’s melodious Sixth Symphony is another hidden gem, less well known than his later symphonies but sharing many characteristics with them.
To lead us through it we are pleased to welcome the distinguished conductor Monica Buckland. Monica is one of several highly talented female conductors at last being recognised in this country, and she has worked extensively with orchestras in Europe and the USA. Our soloist will be Murray McLachlan, a pianist of great experience and international repute.
