Roopa Panesar with Bhupinder Chaggar – Indian Spring 3
March 2 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
As we approach Holi, the Indian spring festival of colours, join us to mark the season with a series of concerts bring you the best of Hindustani classical music. The spring is celebrated in the Indian arts as a time of new life, playfulness and the appreciation of beauty, and Indian music is perfectly adapted to capture these moods. Whatever the weather outside, immerse yourself in our celebration of the coming spring with superb exponents of the classical raga tradition.
For our finale we move to the intimate setting of St Chad’s College Chapel and shift the focus to the Hindustani instrumental style by presenting a concert by Roopa Panesar, one of the finest sitar players to emerge on the Indian music scene in the UK. Trained from a very young age by the great educationalist and sitar maestro Ustad Dharambir Singh MBE, Roopa has established herself as an outstanding and much-loved performer. Roopa will be accompanied by Bhupinder Chaggar on tabla, one of the leading disciples of the renowned tabla maestro of the Benares gharana, Pandit Sharda Sahai. This is a rare opportunity to hear a top-quality sitar and tabla performance in Durham.
The concert will comprise presentations of traditional Hindustani ragas and talas.
