We’re a group of flautists of all abilities who enjoy playing flute music together. Our size varies depending on everyone’s availability but we aim for a minimum of eight core members. The limit, however, doesn’t exist! We cover mainly flute choir music of all genres (from Disney to Classical) and recently started branching out to duets and trios. This year, we are also hoping to make Flute Choir a sort of network of Durham flautists, so that if someone needs a flautist, it is easy to find one, and to make it easier for everyone to find out about future masterclasses.

We roughly do one or two concerts a term – Christmas Charity concert, Epiphany concert, Castle concert and usually one or two more. Last year we also performed at the June Ball and on BBC Radio Tees. This year we’re hoping to increase the number of performances by doing lunchtime concerts in schools and/or care homes.

To join us, you only need to be able to play the flute (we recommend grade 2/3 as a minimum) and be enthusiastic about all things flutiful!

We rehearse on Thursdays at 7pm in the Lecture Room of the Music Department. (By the Cathedral, you need your campus card to enter. The room is on the left as you walk in)
