Free Student Tickets: Equilbey’s Schubert (Friday 7 February)

Royal Northern Sinfonia are offering students free tickets to their upcoming concert in their RNS at Home Series; Equilbey’s Schubert. Conducted by Laurence Equilbey and featuring the tenor Ilker Arcayürek, the orchestra will perform Schubert’s Rosamunde overture, Symphony No.4 ‘Tragic’, and a selection of his most famous songs.

The concert starts at 7.30pm. Free student tickets are maximum 2 per person, and are only available by phoning Box Office on 0191 443 4661 or visiting in person and quoting STUDENTSPECIAL.

Vocal and Instrumental Workshops (CoMA Festival):

Sunday 8 March

As part of the CoMA Festival of Contemporary Music for All weekend (6-8 March), James Weeks will be running a selection of vocal and instrumental workshops. Singing workshops are open to vocalists of all abilities, as a guide instrumental sessions are around grade 5+, but this is just a guide, here’s a rough outline of the day:


12pm (choose one)

  • Instrumental: Between sound and silence, exploring playing quietly and the threshold between sound and silence
  • Vocal: the music of Howard Skempton including He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven

2pm (choose one)

  • Instrumental: CoMA Open Scores, exploring some of the latest works by contemporary composers
  • Vocal: CoMA Partsongs, exploring experimental vocal chamber music

3.30pm (all participants)

  • Terry Riley’s Olson III: workshopping and performing the minimalist classic


Workshop tickets for students are £5 for the day, and can be upgraded to combined tickets for the CoMA Festival.
