Full Score is a unique a cappella choir, founded quite recently in 2017. At the heart of our choir is barbershop music, a unique style of singing most famously attributed to the four-part male quartet. However Full Score is a modernised barbershop chorus, and we pride ourselves on performing in both vibrant full-group numbers and in intimate male and female quartets.

Each year we take on challenging repertoire, learning beautiful ballads with gorgeous close harmonies and precisely executing lively barbershop uptunes. Along with traditional Barbershop pieces, we also enjoy much loved barbershop covers, adding a new flare to Queen songs, or jazzing up Disney classics.

We are a very friendly society and love catching up with each other, whether that be at the pub, a meal out, or an after-party following a concert! Full Score is also extremely supportive of one another: in the past, for example, we’ve attended each other’s plays, musicals, dance shows, and much more.

Having sung with a number of Durham’s other top choirs, as well as in solo concerts, we love to perform! In the past year we have sung in various locations around Durham, including the Gala theatre and Castle great hall, as well as further afield such as the Lord Mayor’s house in London, and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Society Information

Co-Presidents: Thomas Rainford & Rachel Wilkinson
Email Address: [email protected] or [email protected]
Rehearsal: Wednesday evenings, 6:30 – 9:30pm
Auditions: Round 1 of auditions will commence in Week 1 of Michaelmas Term

We had hugely successful runs at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2019 and last summer in 2022, and we plan to return again next summer with a brand new show. Over this coming year, we plan to perform in a variety of concerts and events, as well as to provide choir members the opportunity to partake in national barbershop competitions, such as the BABS QuartetCon and the LABBS convention, which is exclusively for all-female quartets.

For auditions, we would like to hear a solo piece of your choice (2 – 3 minutes). This must be performed a cappella, without backing or accompaniment, and we recommend either a jazz or musical theatre style of song. There will also be a vocal range test and a couple of short aural exercises. For our top tips and ideas of what we are looking for, check out the Full Score social media, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions!

If you love singing, making great friends, and enjoy the challenge of a unique style of music, Full Score is the choir for you. Make sure you sign up for auditions this year, we can’t wait to hear you sing!
