Durham University Hill Orchestra is Durham’s only university-wide, non-auditioned orchestra. Orchestral players of all levels and experience are welcome and we pride ourselves on our inclusivity. As an orchestra, we enjoy performing a wide range of music to a high standard. In the past this has included film and TV scores, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Game of Thrones, as well as more traditional concert favourites, such as Sibelius’ Finlandia and Dvorak’s New World Symphony, and even the premiers of three Durham student compositions.

We hold at least one concert every term in incredible venues across Durham and rehearse every Saturday afternoon (with fewer rehearsals during the exam season). There are also plenty of chances to get involved in the orchestra outside of rehearsals and concerts with regular socials and outreach opportunities.

With a history of passionate and inspiring conductors, a huge variety of fun and challenging repertoire, DUHO offers the perfect way of keeping orchestral playing enjoyable, rewarding and accessible to everyone!
