Jazz Society offers a vibrant social scene with regular trips to see professional gigs all over the North East, such as Youngblood Brass Band, The Hot 8 Brass Band and many more local acts at venues across the region with discounted tickets. We also host a big social in second term with live music, drinks and collaboration with other societies to create a fun atmosphere for all!
We also offer student workshops and masterclasses with professional musicians to focus on improving various aspects of jazz performance. Another aspect of Jazz Society is our performer database, where regular attendees at our jam nights are invited to sign up and are offered paid gigs at events across the university and wider community.
We run 2 concert series, putting on 4 of our own themed gigs per term to promote student musicians. Previous examples include a Dave Holland Octet, a Bill Evans feature and an Ella Fitzgerald concert. We also have many exciting upcoming gigs including a Latin Jazz Trio, a Chick Corea concert and a New Orleans Brass Band show. Members of the society with ideas for gigs they would like to put on are invited to apply for a performance slot at the start of every term; we provide a venue, logistics and publicity to make your jazz gig happen!
