Samling Academy provides young singers from the age of 14 in the North East unique learning and performance opportunities. Bringing world class artists such as Caroline Dowdle (from the Royal Opera House), international tenor and Samling Artist Nicky Spence and James Baillieu (award-winning pianist, Samling Artist and Professor of Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music), Samling Academy is an excellent opportunity for young classical singers in the North East to work with some of the best artists today.
The kind of young person we are hoping to find is someone with a good voice who might be taking singing lessons, either privately or in school.
We call upon singing teachers, music teachers and lecturers to encourage young singers to apply. If you have any students interested in this opportunity, please share the online application form with them (linked here).
The deadline for candidates to fill out the application form is Monday 3 February. We will be holding this year’s Samling Academy auditions on the 21–23 February at Newcastle University.
We would be grateful if you could please explain a little bit about what Samling Academy is to anyone that you put forward. If you need further information, do please visit our webpage, or feel free to get in touch with us directly.
Those invited to audition will be asked to prepare three pieces of music to perform from memory including one in a language other than their own. We also ask that singers arrange to bring their own accompanist.
The Samling Academy weekends this year will take place on 2–4 and 16–18 October with the concert showcasing the work taking place at 7.30pm on Sunday 18 October at Sage Gateshead.
