Musical Life at Aidan’s
Music is a massive part of life at Aidan’s, and with everything from termly Bajams and monthly Open Mic Nights to the Hill Orchestra’s weekly rehearsals taking place in our college, there’s a chance for any type of musician to get involved. For those of you who don’t know, Bajam is a concert that takes place in our JCR and which showcases a selection of student bands and solo artists, so look out for the Facebook event for our first term concert and get in touch if you want to perform!
We also have a college choir; Aidan’s Voices, and a jazz band, both of which will have stalls at our in-college freshers fair should you wish to get involved! Finally, we have our college music room, situated on A Straight, opposite the gym, which is equipped with a drum kit, piano, electric keyboard, microphone and PA speaker and several guitar and bass amps, available for free use to all students. Just be sure to book a slot at the college reception!
Aidan’s Voices is a fun informal choir open to everyone that sing mostly pop songs in harmony. We rehearse once a week on Sundays at 2:30 in the Shincliffe Room, and perform at both the Jazz Cocktails in College and the Formal’s Champagne Receptions!
We don’t audition – the more the merrier- and we’re always looking for new members so if you’re interested in joining, get in touch!
Aidan’s Jazz Band are a casual band who play mostly jazz, swing and funk music. We take alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, trumpets, trombones, clarinets, bass and electric guitars, drummers and pianists. We rehearse once a week on Tuesday evenings 20:00-21:30 and play a number of gigs per term, both in college events and externally.
