Choral Volunteerships 2019-20
Trinity Laban is the only Conservatoire in the world with a Chapel Choir. Since Trinity College of Music (now Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance) moved to Greenwich in 2001 it has been responsible for the music at weekly services in the beautiful Old Royal Naval College Chapel. The Chapel Choir (directed by Ralph Allwood MBE) now has 28 members from the college and surrounding communities, with Richard Gowers as Organist.
In addition to occasional additional services, the normal weekly commitment is:
- Sundays (9.45am rehearsal, 11.00am Eucharist)
- Mondays (4.00pm rehearsal 5.30pm evensong + 7.00pm – 8.30pm rehearsal)
There will be some extra services at the end of the autumn term and in Holy Week during spring term. Good notice will be given of these.
Who can apply?
You do not need to be a student at the Conservatoire to apply for a volunteer place.
Successful candidates will be accomplished musicians, good singers with the ability both to blend and take significant solos. Good sight reading is essential, as the repertoire is broad and demanding. They will have a love of the sacred choral repertoire and want to be a member of a closely knit team. They will wish to represent the conservatoire through the work of the chapel and, more widely, through concerts and broadcasts, and through singing occasional services at other venues. The choir has toured India, Malta and the UK, and has recently produced a recording (on the Signum label) of works by Roderick Williams.
How to apply
To apply for an audition, please email Phillippa Scammell [email protected] a short musical CV, including your name and voice part in the subject line.
