Musical Life at Ustinov
Music is an important part of Ustinov college life. There are several musical societies, and many musical events take place throughout the year. In a college that is so international, what could be more important than sharing the music from cultures all around the world. Music is said to be one of the international languages, and at Ustinov we certainly prove this to be the case.

Ustinov College Choir
The Ustinov college choir is a non-auditioned choir which sings a wide variety of music, including choral, folk, pop and gospel, from all across the globe to reflect the diversity of culture represented by its members and the college. We perform at many college events including college music events, formals and Ustinov Live. One of the highlights is singing Christmas carols and songs from across the globe (not just the standards!) at Christmas events in December in many different languages. We practice on Wednesday evenings during term time at 7.30pm.
Ustinov’s summer BBQ is our flagship event of the year, and one of the main attractions is our mini music festival. Each year we rent in a large outside stage, and encourage Ustinovians – especially all of our players from Ustinov Live throughout the year – to come along and take a slot entertaining the crowd.
Ustinov Live! is Ustinov’s monthly open mic night, generally running on the first Tuesday of each month in our bar at Ustinov. We encourage music and performances from all different styles and cultures, and we pride ourselves in being friendly and inclusive – we offer an opportunity for beginners to make their first performance, for regular players to try out new routines, and everything in between. We mostly have musical performances, ranging from solo artists to whole bands, but we also regularly have dance and poetry on the stage too.
We have a good quality technical set up with a PA system, amplifiers and monitors, and we also have our own drum kit and stage piano, and a guitar is usually provided.
