Voices is a really friendly, non-auditioning choir of about 30 to 40 singers open to all members of Durham University. We rehearse every Tuesday evening for an hour and a half, and like to sing a wide variety of music, including traditional choral pieces as well as songs from films and popular music. For example, in our last concert we sang, amongst others, music by Bob Chilcott and ‘Mr Blue Sky’ by the Electric Light Orchestra. We enjoy getting involved in the community and have performed at tea parties for the elderly organised by DU Student Volunteering and Outreach, and busked at Durham’s Christmas Markets. We are a very sociable choir, and hold a number of socials every term such as meals out, which are a great way to get to know one another. Last year we visited York, where we busked for charity and explored the city; we are keen to offer more trips like this throughout the year. Voices hold a couple of concerts every academic year in Durham, which are always thoroughly enjoyed by choir members and audiences alike. We would love for you to come along to one of our rehearsals and see if Voices is right for you. You don’t need to know how to read sheet music, just bring your enthusiasm! If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to email [email protected] for more information. We hope to hear from you soon!
